"A meeting is scheduled on Monday, 7 p. m., April 19, 1976, to discuss the possibility of the formation of a Chamber of Commerce in Henderson and Chester County. It will be held in the court room of the Public Safety Building. Larry D. Welch, Executive Vice President of The Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce will be in attendance to provide information about the purposes of a chamber, program of work, by-laws, etc. Any person interested in this meeting is invited to attend. Recently at the Community Appreciation Banquet hosted by Freed-Hardeman College, Dr. E. Claude Gardner, President, proposed the idea of establishment of a Chamber of Commerce to the group in attendance. About fifty persons at the banquet expressed an interest in attending a meeting to explore the possibility of beginning a Chamber in the county. Mr. Welch has indicated that if there is real interest in the community for a chamber that he will be pleased to render every assistance possible. All of those who are interested in the growth and progress of the county are urged to attend this discussion meeting."
This was the beginning of The Chester County Chamber of Commerce. Today, over 30 years later, the Chamber's primary goal is to be an advcate for business in Henderson and Chester County. However, the Camber has become a resource for residents, businesses, and visitors needing information about the area. The chamber also serves a public relations function for the city and county, distributing information about various services, events, and programs.
